I started collecting when my wife took an evening job in 1988, which meant I either passed out in front of the television every evening or took up a hobby. So I took up a hobby. The idea of this hobby formed in my head when I found a box of my old broken Scalextric cars at my parents house and started to repair them. I then moved into converting static kits into slot cars as a way of getting hold of cars that as far as I knew had not been made into slot cars. How many can say they had a Morris Marina, Isuzu Bellet or Austin Maxi slot car in their collection or more to the point how many would be sad enough to admit it. By 1997 my collection had grown to around 600 cars which included almost everything hard body 1/32 that Airfix/MRRC and Revell had produced and in converted static kit form most that they had not made into slot cars. As well as the usual Scalextric etc. In 1995 I took a job which meant I was away from home out of the UK most of the time and my hobby suffered, in the end culminating in me selling most of my collection. But three years ago I took a more normal job and the collecting bug restarted, and the cries of “oh no what have you brought home now” and “no I wont go to the post office to get your b%$@y parcel” are running thick and fast once again. My primary likes are hard bodied 1/32 cars from manufacturers such as Airfix/MRRC, Revell, Eldon, Strombecker, Monogram, Gama, Carrera and Marklin. But much to my wife’s disgust I have a terrible habit of not being able to turn away anything slot car related.
